DrayOS 5: a new foundation for DrayTek devices released in select models

DrayTek has rolled out DrayOS 5, the next generation of the operating system inside its routers, Wi-Fi access points and switches. It keeps everything installers already like about DrayOS — built-in VPN, multi-WAN and central management — and adds stronger identity controls, a cleaner interface and better visibility for the people who run the network.

From 1997 to DrayOS 5

DrayOS first shipped in 1997 on DrayTek’s early modems and dual-WAN routers. Over the years it became known for features that other vendors sell as add-ons: VPN, load balancing across several internet links, firewalling and the VigorACS management platform. DrayOS 5 is the biggest rework of that platform so far, and it now runs on DrayTek’s newest hardware.

What changes, in three words

Safer

Access control moves from the edge of the network to every user and device.

  • A new IAM (identity and access management) section for users and groups
  • Role-based and conditional access policies
  • Multi-factor authentication for sign-in
  • Threat-intelligence filtering and port stealthing out of the box

Simpler

Day-to-day setup takes fewer clicks and less guesswork.

  • A redesigned, responsive web interface with a clearer menu
  • EasyVPN for quick, secure remote connections
  • Flexible operating modes for different deployments
  • Back up and restore access policies in one step

Clearer

Admins see what the network is doing — and fix it faster.

  • A real-time monitoring dashboard
  • Unified diagnostic tools in one place
  • Full integration with VigorACS 3 for multi-site control
  • A customizable hotspot portal for branded guest Wi-Fi

What it means for your network

For a small office it means safer guest Wi-Fi and staff sign-in without extra licenses. For MSPs and integrators it means one consistent interface across every DrayTek device they install, policies they can back up and reuse, and VigorACS 3 to look after all their customers from one screen.
